Mallika Sarabhai

Multifaceted Mallika Sarabhai has a Masters Degree in Business from IIM (Ahmedabad) and a Ph.D in organizational behavior from Gujrat University. Her talents span several artistic disciplines - film, dance, theatre, television, literature. In addition Ms. Sarabhai is involved in social change in India through Jagrut (a school for environmental empowerment), The Value Project (treating violence caused by gender bias, communal hatred and religious intolerance), Parivartan (for adivasi women) and the Center for Non-Violence Through The Arts.

Dance: Lead soloist since 1977 at the Darpana Academy of the Performing Arts; specializes in Bharat Natyam and Kuchipudi: also a contemporary dancer with the Darpana Dance Company, the Pan Project (London): The Battery Dance Company (New York): the National Dance Institute (New York). Has performed all over India, Western Europe, North and South America, South East Asia, China, Australia. Africa and the Middle

east. Has led her dance group to prestigious festivals at the Saddlers Wells, the Festival Des Champs Elysee, Festival of Perth, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and all major festivals in India.

Theatre: The Mahabharata", directed by Peter Brook; "Shakti - The Power of Women" a piece on the image of Indian women, written wrth John Martin; "Srta's Daughters", a performance piece on women's issues like rape, female feticides, and the deification of women, in three languages, developed with women activists: "Itan Kaham - The Story of Stories", directed by John Martin/Pan Production, London: "Kalyug - The Circle of Paradise", directed by John Martin/Pan Production, London; "V For...", directed by John Martin, choreographed by Mallika Sarabhai.

Television: Presented over eight series and serials including "Arts Update", "Kaleidoscope", "Turning Point", etc.

Film Direction: directed over six series of documentaries and short films on subjects from arts to science to education.
