Mr. Anupam Puri retired from McKinsey & Company in late 2000. He was a Director and played a variety of other leadership roles during his 30-year career there. Before joining McKinsey & Company, he was Advisor for Industrial Development to the President of Algeria, and consultant to General Electric's Center for Advanced Studies.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, and Master of Arts and M. Phil. degrees from Oxford University. He is also on the Boards of Godrej Consumer Products Limited, ICICI Bank Limited, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, Mahindra British Telecom Limited and Patni Computer Systems Limited.
On issues of public policy, Mr. Puri initially served several Federal, State and local government agencies in the US. Later public policy work included an assessment of the competitiveness of the US economy for the Department of Commerce; reform of agricultural policy and the subsidized food distribution system in Mexico; the establishment of a new structure for the Venezuelan oil and a gas industry after the nationalization of foreign oil companies; the establishment of a plan to develop the petrochemical industry in Saudi Arabia and the restructuring of the European steel and textile industries for the European Economic Commission. Mr. Puri has also served state and local government on the issue of promoting economic development, including Dallas, Cleveland, Amsterdam, Scotland and the State of Maharashtra in India.
Mr. Puri has also participated in the reorganization of several multilateral agencies, including the OPEC secretariat, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, the UN Development program, the UN Fund for Population Activities, and the European Economic Commission.
