Shishir Kurup Playwright, merchant on venice Shishir, a member of Cornerstone Theatre Company, is an actor, playwright, director, and songwriter. He won a Garland Award for his compositions for Los Vecinos and Candude, the latter of which he also directed and which was nominated for an Ovation Award for Best Musical of The Year. Shishir wrote and directed Ghurba, co-directed and composed Everyman in the Mall (with Bill Rauch), wrote Sid Arthur and Birthday of the Century, and wrote, directed and composed An Antigone Story. Earlier this year his play On Caring for the Beast was produced
by DISHA Theatre Company. Merchant on Venice was commissioned by ASK Theatre
and Cornerstone Theatre and has won a CAC award and a Roger L.
Stevens/Kennedy Center new play award. Shishir's film and television credits
include Coneheads, Trigger Effect, City of Angels, Murder in Small TownX,
Judging Amy, Off Centre, ER, C-16, 90210, the indies The Zeros and Turbans,
and recurring roles on Chicago Hope and West Wing. Shishir is profoundly
humbled to be in NY at this time and would like to dedicate these two
readings to the memory of firelighter Angel Juarbe, who was lost on September
