Isheeta brings Bollywood to ‘Damaru’
International fusion artist Isheeta Ganguly's eighth studio album, " Damaru", inspired by the music of Rabindranath Tagore, features a voice-over of Tagore's "Where The Mind Is Without Fear" by Bollywood's John Abraham woven into a hip, cool, pop-elektronika rendition of "Bande Mataram".
Additionally, the winning duo Shantanu Moithra and Swanand Kirkire have created folk-pop tracks on the album which include "Aona" and "Sanjhari De Bata" which Ganguly mentions have "strong Bengali baoul and bhatiyali influences." The songs, inspired by Ganguly's cross-cultural flux and journey between dual worlds, weave together her versatile training in Rabindrasangeet, Indian classical, jazz, pop and gospel and represent themes of universalism, patriotism and love.
