Imagine the West Coast of California, psychedelia-laced George Harrison, and a 1960's Indian film, and you're getting close to the sound of Goldspot's second album "And the Elephant is Dancing". Available worldwide on iTunes, the album has caught the ear of tastemaker dj's Nic Harcourt and Jason Bentley (KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic"), and has officially been added to several npr and indie stations' playlists. The band was just featured in the Emmy-nominated hit television show "How I Met Your Mother", will be featured in an ebay ad this Fall, and goes on an East Coast tour this Fall in support of the new album. Goldspot has performed at the prestigious Glastonbury and iTunes festivals, and opened for several major acts including Death Cab for Cutie, Feist, Franz Ferdinand, Travis, and even Bon Jovi. Their music videos have been featured on VH1 and MTV.
This album has lived in the mind of singer/songwriter Siddhartha Khosla since he was a child, growing up in his New Jersey home listening to Bollywood oldies and western rock bands. "Western indie pop/rock sounds together with Bollywood inspired melodies and instrumentation just seems like a natural and wonderful musical partnership to me," he says. "Mohd. Rafi, Michael Stipe of REM, Kishore Kumar, and The Beatles all have inspired me ever since I could sing my first note." Khosla formed the first incarnation of Goldspot eight years ago, and while he enjoys mixing the band up to play with different sounds and ideas, he remains the constant driving force, songwriter, and lead performer.
"And The Elephant is Dancing" is the follow-up to Goldspot's critically acclaimed full-length debut "Tally Of The Yes Men" (MERCURY UK/UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP), an inspired melding of decades of rock and pop influences with the melodic sensibilities of old Indian film music. "Tally" was recognized by the Sunday Times (UK) as one of the best albums of the year, with Goldspot being named as one of their best new acts of the year. Hit single "Friday" put the band in the top 20 in the UK radio charts, and at No. 10 in the alternative charts. Follow-up single, "It's Getting Old" was awarded an iTunes Single of the Week slot and became the retailer's largest free download in its history. Goldspot's music has been featured multiple times on hit US TV shows "How I Met your Mother", "The OC" and several films, including the Simon Pegg hit "Run Fatboy Run", Rohan Sippy's "The President is Coming", and most recently in the soundtrack to "Today's Special".
