Synopsis: Director Priyadarshan sets his film in the famed silk-weaving town of Kanchivaram in the 1940s. A gifted weaver, Vengadam is inspired by the Russian Revolution and sets out to organize his fellow weavers against their oppressive bosses. For like his fellow weavers, Vengadam toils all day weaving these expensive fabulous garments but cannot even dream of affording one himself.
