Synopsis:
Krishna and Jayamma, a working class Indian couple who prayed to the god Ganesh to bless them with a boy, never dreamed that their son would actually look like his namesake, the elephant-headed deity. An accidental meeting with a reporter's brother leads to a national television story on Ganesh's facial deformity and a Canadian plastic surgeon, Dr. Sanjeev Kaila changes their lives forever.
Director Srinivas Krishna: Filmmaker Srinivas Krishna launched his career with the international hit, Masala, which premiered at the Toronto and Sundance Film Festivals, garnered rave reviews and was sold worldwide. In 2002 the British Film Institute voted it among the top ten South Asian Diaspora Films of the 20th century. His second feature, Lulu, had its world premiere in the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival. Krishna’s work includes writing and directing television dramas and mini-series, directing dance films, writing stage plays and opera, and creating large-scale video art installations that tour across the world. In 2009, his first feature documentary, Ganesh, Boy Wonder, premiered in the Official Selection of Hot Docs, the Canadian International Documentary Festival, to standing ovations and, in 2010, was nominated for a Golden Sheaf at the Yorkton Film Festival. In 2010, his series of multi-platform short films pairing Olympic athletes with young directors, Athletes in Motion, made for CTV and Bravo!, won the Best Drama / Fiction Award at the 2010 European Video and Mobile TV Forum in Paris and was nominated for Best Branded Entertainment at the 2010 Banff International Television Festival. In whatever format or media, at the heart of Krishna’s work lies a passion for making images and telling stories in ways that are intellectually stimulating, emotionally engaging, and visually stunning."
