Rajit Kapoor, Nina Gupta Named Best Actors, ‘Highway’ Best Film at 2016 NYIFF

Indian actors Rajit Kapoor and Neena Gupta won the ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Actress’ awards, respectively, for the film, “Threshold,” while “Highway” won the ‘Best Film’ at the just concluded 16th annual New York Indian Film Festival..
Directed by Pushan Kripalani, “Threshold” explores a broken relationship of an elderly Indian couple, played by Kapoor and Gupta.
Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni won the ‘Best Director’ award for his Marathi road trip drama, “Highway,” which was also selected as the festival’s centerpiece film.
Eleven-year-old Vedashree Mahajan was adjudged the ‘Best Child Actor’ for her performance in the Marathi film, “The Silence,” a story about child abuse.
Ruchika Oberoi walked away with the ‘Best Screenplay’ award for “The Island City” while “Daaravtha” secured the ‘Best Short Film’ award.
The ‘Best Documentary’ honor was conferred upon “Cities of Sleep” and “Bad Habit” claimed the ‘Best One Minute Cell Phone Film’ award.
