Indian Voices, India Now!

Internationally acclaimed writers, filmmakers and photographers will perform, read and screen excerpts of their work to explore their creative insights into the dynamic and often contradictory relationship between the individual, the community, millennia-old traditions and the forces of globalization in contemporary India today.
  
Moderator: Aseem Chhabra, published in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Time Out New York and The Courier Journal, contributes to several Indian-American publications, including India Abroad, and its sister website, rediff.com, and writes a weekly New York column for Mumbai Mirror. His byline has appeared in India in The Telegraph, The Hindustan Times, The Times of India, India Today and the Indian edition of Cosmopolitan

Marina Budhos
is a widely published author and nonfiction writer. Her books include The Professor of Light and Remix: Conversations with Immigrant Teenagers and Ask Me No Questions.

Amitava Kumar is the author of Husband of a Fanatic, "Editor's Choice" book at The New York Times; Bombay-London-New York, on the list of "Books of the Year" in The New Statesman (UK); and Passport Photos, which won an "Outstanding Book of the Year" award from the Myers Program for the Study of Bigotry and Human Rights in North America. He has also written a book of poems, No Tears for the N.R.I. His novel, Home Products was published in early 2007 by Picador-India.

Dev Benegal's first feature English, August (1994) is acknowledged as a landmark in contemporary Indian cinema; his films are set in contemporary India and are about people caught between many cultures, speaking seventeen languages and still making sense.

Ram Rahman has shown his photographs in individual and group shows in India and around the world. He is also a founding member of SAHMAT, the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust in New Delhi, which has been a leader in the resistance to communal and sectarian forces in India through its public cultural action and represents a very wide spectrum of the creative community.
