Vijay Tendulkar--A Playwright from Conference and Evening honoring
Vijay Tendulkar An evening with Vijay Tendulkar Join us for an evening celebrating
Vijay Tendulkar, a leading contemporary Indian playwright, screen
and television writer, literary essayist, political journalist, and
social commentator. For the past four decades he has been the most
influential dramatist and theater personality in Marathi language. A lifelong resident of the
city of Named the "Arthur Miller"
of The evening will include a
reading of excerpts from the current NYC production of Sakharam-The
Book-Binder by The Play Company, short excerpts of his major films,
and a moderated interview with the playwright. The Indo-American Arts

honoring the theatre and film work of Vijay Tendulkar. Discussed will
be his plays like Shantata! court chalu ahe (Silence! The Court Is
in Session, 1967), Sakharam binder (Sakharam the Book-Binder, 1972),
Kamala (1981) and Ghashiram kotwal (Ghashiram the Constable, 1972),
one of the longest-running musicals in the world, with over six thousand
