Bio
Dr. Haresh Lalvani is a tenured professor of Architecture at Pratt Institute where he is also the co-director of the Center for Experimental Structures. He is the inventor of ALGORHYTHMS and XURF product lines developed in the ongoing collaboration with Milgo-Bufkin. His AlgoRhythm Columns are in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York. His work has been supported by NASA, NYSTAR, NEA, Graham Foundation amongst others, and he received the Pioneers' Award from the Space Structures Research Center, University of Surrey, UK. He was an artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St.John the Divine, New York for a decade. He designed the award-winning Project X, a luxury apartment high-rise in Manhattan and his design for a 4-storeyed residence in New Delhi is nearing completion. His work lies at the intersection of Art and Science and is driven by a search to understand how Nature designs its incredible creations using generative principles and formal codes combined with forming processes so we can design our own. XURF shown here is in laser-cut stainless steel and employs a proprietary technique that forms the surface uniquely, reminiscent of the way gravity bends space in Einstein's theory of relativity.
