Bio

Nandini Chirimar grew up in Jaipur, India and came to the USA in 1987 to study art. She did a BFA in Drawing/Painting from Cornell University, a residency at the Skowhegan School of Art and a MFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. Additionally, she studied viscosity printing with Arun Bose and spent four years in Japan learning woodblock printing from Taika Kinoshita. She currently lives and works in New York City.

Nandini has shown her work in many solo and group exhibits in the US, India and Japan. She recently participated in art fairs in Korea and Paris, and has shows coming up in New Delhi and Kolkata.

Nandini’s work is a ‘visual journal’ of her life and thoughts, drawn from her practical, emotional and visual experiences. She is interested in objects, things of daily use, living spaces, maps, current global trends, traditional and pop culture, relationships, and her different roles as an Indian woman/mother living in America.

Her media include drawing, painting, gold leaf, print making, collage, embroidery and photography. She also cuts paper and works with thread, fabric and objects to create mixed media and sculptural work.
