A Bengali singer is all set to popularise Rabindra Sangeet in the west by adding a modern touch to Rabindranath Tagore's songs.
The music of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore has always generated a lot of interest across the world.
NRI singer Isheeta Ganguly is attempting to bridge the gap between the east and west bringing Tagore closer to those interested in his music.
"I think Rabindra Sangeet speaks to all of us in terms of its lyrics and all of us can find a home in almost every song of Tagore's. So the hope is with the arrangements and the way I have sung the songs, it will speak to a completely new audience who otherwise may never have had access to his music," said Isheeta.
Infused Jazz elements
Ganguly has infused elements of Jazz in Tagore's songs making them bold and earthy yet free flowing.
"I think it's a wonderful thing for the new generation to know what great literature is hidden behind the songs. And having been written so many years ago, it's very very modern," said Tanushree Shanker, dancer.
"She is always for the people who love Rabindra Sangeet. But what is her specialty is that she is trying to bridge the gap between the east and the west," Ranjana Roy, audience.
The album
Notun Jeeboner Doot is a bouquet of Tagore's songs with a broad canvas of themes from the changing seasons to Durga Puja.
