MoMA to Present India Now Series
Nine new features and two shorts from India will screen at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) (in association with the Indo-American Arts Council) in its "India Now" series, taking place April 22 - 30. Several filmmakers will introduce their films, including Rahul Dholakia whose feature "Parzania" will open the series. MoMA describes the film as a "moving account of the Gujarat riots of 2002. Other films in the program include Arindam Mitra's "Shoonya" (2002) and Anjan Dutt's Bengali social satire "The Bong Connection" (2006). Over 1,000 features are produced each year in India from Bollywood blockbusters to "intimate" Malayalam, Bengali and Tamil "art-house" fare. For more information, visit MoMA's website.
