By SAM THIELMAN The Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council is going back to the classics for its 2007 film fest. The opening night selection for the Gotham-based fest "Saawariya" is adapted from the Dostoyevsky short story "White Nights," and "The Last Lear" follows an actor through his work on Shakespeare's eponymous play.
New sponsors for this year's fest include Time Warner, Verizon, and Nationwide.
The 70-film fest started last week with "The Last Lear" director Rituparno Ghosh's film "Dosar," which preemed at Cannes earlier this year.
This will be the IAAC's 7th edition of the festival, which is skedded to run Nov. 7-11 at theaters throughout Manhtattan. The $4.5 billion Mahindra Group makes automotive and farm vehicles, but also has trade and financial sectors.
