New York, July 26 (PTI): The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) in collaboration with an Indian industrial house will organise a film festival here in November to help the South Asian filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience.
The objective of the five-day festival starting from November 7 is to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of South Asian films. It will include film screenings and special events, the organisers said on Tuesday.
The festival, which has been organised by IAAC for the last six years will be held in collaboration with the Indian business house Mahindra and Mahindra and called as the "The Mahindra IAAC Film Festival".
The first annual IAAC Film Festival, held in 2001 in the aftermath of Sept. 11, introduced New Yorkers to films and artists from South Asia.
The organisers said the partnership will enable the creative art form of film making from global South Asians to reach higher standards of excellence.
"The continued support and dedication by the Mahindra group will enable the IAAC to present the work from the most diverse and original filmmakers from around the South Asian Diaspora," Executive Director, IAAC, Aroon Shivdasani said.
Commenting on the partnership with IAAC, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Mahindra Group Anand Mahindra said the festival will be a unique platform for alternative independent cinema.
