Peter Herbst
 

Peter Herbst was named senior vice president, group editorial director for Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. in 2002. He serves as editor-in-chief of Premiere, and also heads the editorial direction of Car and Driver, Road & Track, Cycle World, and Shock magazines.

Herbst was associate editorial director from 2001 until his appointment as group editorial director. Also, in 2001, he was named editor-in-chief of Premiere. Before assuming these positions he was editor-at-large based in Paris with Hachette Filipacchi Médias. From 1995 to 2000, Herbst was editor-in-chief of Family Life magazine. Previously, he was assistant managing editor of People from 1994 to 1995. In 1994, Herbst was chief consultant for the launch of Marie Claire magazine. He was acting editor-in-chief of New York magazine and worked at the New York Daily News and Rolling Stone in various editorial posts. He began his career in 1971 as a music critic for the Boston Herald.
