Western Union Helps Asia Society’s Indian Folk Art Market

NEW YORK, NY - Western Union, a leader in the money transfer segment of global payments, in July sponsored an Asia Society’s Indian Folk Art Market of the traditional arts of India in New York held with co-organizers Indo-American Arts Council & Crafts Council of India. The three-day event was held as a commitment to celebrate the traditional arts where master artisans displayed, demonstrated and sold their work. Western Union supports these types of events as a commitment to support the communities where its customers reside and/or where they use the company’s services.
In India, there are more than 60,000 Western Union locations of the company’s approximately 430,000 Agents located in 200 countries and territories.
Committed to preserving cultural diversity and fostering economic and cultural sustainability for folk artists, Asia Society, India Abroad, Indo-American Arts Council and Crafts Council of India joined forces to create this unique intercultural experience.
Aroon Shivdasani, Executive Director of the Indo American Arts Council said, “It would have been truly impossible for us to showcase these amazing artisans without the support of Western Union, the main sponsor of the reception and three day event at Asia Society.”
Western Union was delighted to help sponsor the event to be able to share the beautiful work of the artisans.
The highlights of the Indian Folk Art Market included Kashmiri Embroidery;
Tribal Embroidery, Bandhini - tie and dye of Gujarat; Block printing from Bagh, a small tribal town in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh; Kutch shawls; Phulia stoles from West Bengal.
Works of artisans connected with three NGOs Sadhna, Kalaraksha and SEWA were also on display. |
