Shabana Azmi, an award-winning stage and film actress from India, will star in Girish Karnad's Broken Images, which will kick off a U.S. tour at the Skirball Center on October 8 at 8:30pm. Alyque Padamsee will direct.
The play is dubbed as a psychological thriller that brings out the various truths of the life of a celebrity writer. All proceeds from the play will benefit educational programs for under-served girls.
Azmi has won the National Award for Best Actress five times, including three times in a row from 1983-85 for the films Arth, Khandar and Paar. Among her other honors are three Filmfare Awards for Best Actress and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. Stage credits include productions of Harold Pinter's Betrayal for Singapore Repertory Theatre, Tanika Gupta's The Waiting Room for The National Theatre London, and Tumhari Amrita, the Urdu adaptation of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters.
