Plays We Love : Broken Images Makes its Way to the US
Monday, September 27, 2010

We live today in a double world. Who we project ourselves to be … and who we really are. Electronic images whirl around us in a dervish dance. And if we are in the celebrity circuit, we become one of the dervishes," says Director Alyque Padamsee when describing the storyline of Girish Karnad’s play Broken Images.

Broken Images is a psychological thriller from India, that follows the life of an unknown Hindi writer, Manjula, who literally becomes a celebrity overnight after writing a best-selling English novel. Manjula's international success has caused her to face the underlying question of whether or not she has betrayed her own language and identity.

Shabana Azmi, five time National Film Award winning actress, plays Manjula. Azmi is also famous for using her celebrity to initiate positive change such as campaigning against AIDS. We recently found out that this must-see play will be hitting New York and you can be sure that we'll be lining up to see this one.

Broken Image’s US tour begins October 8th and is making it's first stop in NYC at New York University Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

All proceeds from the play will benefit educational programs for under-served girls. If your not in NY, don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this incredible theatrical event, which will also be making its way to D.C., Chicago and San Francisco. For more US locations click here!!
