Riding the wave of Desi fashion's popularity, the Indo-American Arts Council, together with retail concept store and event space Misha Nicole, on Thursday night presented a fashion show featuring the best of the best in the industry!
Designers like Amrita Singh, Payal Singhal, Shekhar Rahate, Stephanie Singh, White + Warren, Sachin and Babi, and Babita Malkani, showed off their latest collections and hottest trends at NYC's Paramount hotel's luscious lobby.
After a short introduction by IAAC's President and Executive Director, Aroon Shivdasani, and Misha Nicole, the models started walking down the candle covered stairs strutting their stuff and showing off the latest trends from the runways that included cashmere outfits by White + Warren, eclectic dresses and retro hats, colorful gowns by Shekhar Rahate, as well as a gorgeous, black-feathered dress by up-and-coming designer Stephanie Singh.

"Tonight you are going to see my signature ball gown that I made my last semester in College, I just launched my first line last year so I've only been in this business for one year," Stephanie Singh told us before the show. And when asked about her inspirations she told us, "everything from nature to different pieces of fabric to an item of clothing that I see someone wearing, like ruffles. I love feathers, my ball gown tonight have a lot of feathers that I hand sowed, it took a long time. My new collection is very modern, very chic, I make cocktail dresses out of Indian sarees. So it's a little blend of Indian and American." Fusion fashion, we love it!
We also caught up with LA based designer Shekhar Rahate who told us he was showing off his latest winter collection: "This is my all-winter collection, I came up with the concept of colors, I use very deep colors for this show; red has hundred shapes, purple has hundred shapes, so every color has more than hundred shapes so I've taken the deepest shape and that's the whole concept of the show."

Taking inspiration from a trip to the Kingdom of Bhutan, Babita Malkani talked about her "Boh-Aum" collection and told us, "this is nine looks that I am showing tonight, and it's inspired by this place called Bhutan, and all the fabrics are made from there. I was just completely bored, nothing inspired me, I didn't know what to do, so I was just studying Bhutan and I wanted to get a bit more spiritual, everything was beautiful, the monasteries and the people."
