Wednesday night saved a spot for baggy fun; I attended Loomstate’s Our Magnificent Earth Day Celebration. The event was hosted by the label's designers Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay Hahn, with jewelry designer (and a Joonbug favorite), Pamela Love. I had an opportunity to speak with Scott about Loomstate's Surf capsule collection for Bloomingdale's; When asked about their competitors (i.e. Cynthia Rowley for Roxy and Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 collection), Scott seemed moved that his "hobby-turned-job" trend was being shared amongst a group of brilliant designers, and he boasted about Loomstate’s ability to keep their Bloomingdale's Surf Lodge capsule within an economical-friendly price range. The event housed a 20ft tall interactive psychedelic pyramid, which became the arena to 40 amazing drummers led by the magnificent Hisham Akira. Also available were face paintings, psychic readings and a guest appearance by fashion ‘it-girl,’ Becka Diamond.

Thursday evening was my chance to stop by Eryn Brinie for their Art of Style event. The intimate affair rounded a group of champagne-driven guest to respect the Americana-style work of Marco Walker. Seventies couples, vintage-styled locations and beautiful stallions filled the walls and postcards, reminding guests just how gifted the London turned Los Angeles native really is. Meanwhile, International Playground prepped for their store opening party of 1000 guests at 13 Stanton with The Block Magazine. I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up the exclusive nail polishes, Swedish designers and pair of high-waisted trousers from Ravishing Mad - which my accomplice couldn’t forget. A garden décor of live plants, zipper-cuff jewelry fixtures and an in-house deejay for the night makes International Playground a permanent LES stop. The evening closed with Global Runway’s Night Out, hosted by designer Misha Nicole and the Indo-American Arts Council at the Paramount Hotel. Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander was in attendance, alongside guests who admired Stephanie Singh’s college ball gown project; Shekhar Rahate’s winter collection (featuring colors of ‘a hundred shapes’); Babita Malkani’s "Boh-Aum" collection, inspired from her trip to Kingdom of Bhutan; and looks from Naeem Khan, Padma Lakshimi, Payal Singhal, White and Warren, Sachin and Babi and many more who came out to support the charitable event.

Friday evening was a quick stop at the Roger Smith Hotel to meet with Cassie King (who, by the way, is as sweet as cherry pie) as she presented her Spring 2010 jewelry collection, Cassandra Collections. Cassie crammed the famine of beauty with jewelry starting in the mid $80’s; the highest piece being a bib necklace with interchangeable colored ribbons at $485. When asked about her market, it was as if she answered my question with what market?; considering the San Antonio, Texas native feels her jewelry can unite consumers from their 20’s to their 80’s. Bib necklaces weren’t her only selling pieces, sting ray skin bracelets also stole my attention; as the designer told me that a lot of her pieces shown were staple pieces which would also transition into her Fall collection - in alternate colors, of course. Cassie designs a lot of custom pieces, which eventually form into her collection. A consumer may take something they like from here, to collaborate it with a piece they like from there – creating one. Could there be space opening up at Vogue? Perhaps! As T Magazine recovers from the loss of its editor Stefano Tonchi, rumors are placing Vogue’s fashion news and features director Sally Singer as its likely successor. Vogue didn’t confirm; a spokesperson told WWD, “We are very pleased that Sally is here at Vogue, and we understand that she feels pleased to be here.” ; Supermodel Heidi Mount will team up with French actor Pascal Greggory to shoot a mini-movie for Karl Lagerfeld, which will show during the upcoming Cruise 2011 launch May 11th; Tuesday, Marc Jacobs' business partner, Robert Duffy, will wed New York real estate agent Alex Cespedes in front of 86 guests at Duffy’s home in Massachusetts – where gay marriage is legal; 13-year old blogger Tavi Gevinson will pre-tape a reading from her First Kiss article for the 92nd Street Y event May 26th. The event will feature readings from others who have contributed to the one-off zine, discussing their awkward first-time smooches. Click here for more information and ticket purchases; Emanuel Ungaro is seeking a professionally trained fashion designer for the label – one who “set its design direction on more solid footing,” subsequent to the shotgun appointment of both Estrella Arch and Lindsay Lohan; Azzedine Alaia rants of to Flaunt about the current lack among designers: “There’s a fatigue in fashion, I think. Designer fashion is different now. Designers cannot create so many collections — cruise and pre-fall, accessories — when normally two-a-year is more than sufficient. A designer simply cannot invent something new every two months or so. It takes six months of research and work to build a new silhouette. I work until very late every morning since I do many things by myself. Personally, I know it’s not possible. That’s the reason why fashion today does not change very much. There is no time to think, to invent something new. You can no longer be excited or surprised. Rarely is there any freshness.”
