Ta Ka Di Mi: Exploring South Asian Dance       August 13-August 14
Presented by the Ailey Extension, The Anamika-Navatman Project, and The Sa Dance Company

Workshop with Ramli Ibrahim        August 16- August 19
Presented by Battery Dance Company

Workshops Description

Ramli Ibrahim's workshop will be based largely on the techniques of Odissi and Bharata Natym. From the fundamental basis of these two Indian classical dance styles, Ramli develops a valid point of embarkation for choreographers to use in their contemporary works. Ramli is interested in redefining contemporary 'modernity' through the Asian dance-theatre traditions and will focus on Bharata Natyam and Odissi as the source of inspiration. The workshop will touch on technique, improvisations and mentorship in stimulating creativity in discovering new vistas for both dancers and choreographers.
