This special program features four of the most esteemed artists in Indian classical music: Pandit Jasraj, who is internationally acclaimed for his extraordinary 3 1/2 octave range and rich renditions of the highly improvised North Indian khyal; Balamurali Krishna, an Immensely popular vocalist and prolific compassr who has reigned at the forefront of South Indian music for the past five decades; the inimitable Zakir Hussain, one of the most formidable tabla (drum) players in Indian music; and Vikku Vinayakram, South India's leading ghatam (clay pot) player. Mr. Hussain will accompany both vocal maestros; the concert will also feature a riveting percussion duet. Pandit Jasraj, Balamurali Krishna and Zakir Hussain were all part of the acclaimed Music Festival of India concert at Carnegie Hall in the fall of 1997.
