Pandit Birju Maharaj is the legendary grand master of Kathak, India's great classical dance known for its intricate footwork and subtle mime. The torchbearer of the Lucknow gharana (school), he is renowned for his mastery of rhythm and expressive abhinaya. In this program of ancient and contemporary works, he is joined by his outstanding ensemble of musicians and dancers that includes his disciples Saswati Sen and his son Deepak Maharaj.
