Come join this all-star group for a rare treat in one of New York's great jazz clubs.
Invocation was founded by Pakistani born guitarist, Rez Abbasi, as a means to further develop his
ambition of uniting jazz with South Asian music. For his new album, Suno Suno, Abbasi was informed
by Qawwali, a music sung by Sufi mystics and popularized in the west by the late maestro, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
The new compositions feature stirring grooves and whirlwind melodies that stimulate an explosive group dynamic.
Suno Suno was commissioned by Chamber Music America and The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

” The pieces continually create and defer expectations, and often come together in stunning climaxes.”
- Jazziz Magazine
“ Of all the recent experiments blending music from South Asia with jazz, Abbasi's “Things to Come” may be the most elegant and seamless. This music, superbly conceived and played, makes far-flung diversity feel like the mainstream
of its art.”
- Popmatters.com
" Mr. Abbasi succeeded in making some fairly cerebral intricacies feel intuitive and touched by a higher purpose."
- New York Times |
