Dr L Subramaniam, India's violin icon is a child prodigy and wasgiven the tile Violin Chakravarthy (emperor of the violin). He is the only musician who has performed/recorded/composed Carnatic classical as well as western classical both Orchestral and non-orchestral. He has scored for films like Salaam Bombay and Mississippi Masala, featured soloist for Little Buddha and Cotton Mary of Merchant-Ivory Productions.
He is the creator of Global Music concept and has worked with western musicians like Yehudi Menuhin, Steven Seagal, Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample, Stanley Clarke, Stephane Grappelli, George Duke, Al Jarreau, Jean Luc Ponty, Earl Klugh, lary Corryell, Corky Siegel, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, John Surnam, Maynard Ferguson and Ravi Coltrane. Not only is he the most outstanding Indian Classical Violinist, but also an exceptional composer who has established himself as the foremost Indian composer in the realm of orchestral composition. The Double Concerto for violin and flute combines western scales and micro intervals. Spring-Rhapsody is a homage to Bach and Baroque music. He has created and written for world's greatest orchestras The New York Philharmonic Orchestra and Zubin Mehta Fantasy of Vedic Chants, the Swiss Romande Orchestra Turbulence, the Kirov Ballet Shanti Priya, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra The Concerto for Two Violins, the Berlin Opera Global Symphony, the live concert of which was broadcast simultaneously over 28 nations. His compositions have been used in various stage presentations including San Jose Ballet Company and Alvin Ailey Company.
He has received several awards and honors, including Padma Bhushan, GIMA and others. He has not only mastered music but also is a General Practitioner.
Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, well known as playback singer is also trained in hindustani classical music. A versatile singer who has sung with Indian classical maestros like Pandit Jasraj and BalaMurali Krishna, while also worked with music composers like R. D Burman and A. R Rahman.
Her album Global Fusion released by Warner Bros where she was the main featured soloist with Dr L Subramanium was a critically acclaimed milestone featured artists from five continents. Although primarily a playback singer, she has sung with many orchestras as a soloist. She has performed at Royal Albert Hall in London, The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, The Lincoln Center in New York, Madison Square Garden, Zhongshan Music hall in Beijing, The Esplanade in Singapore, etc.
