Dr. Haresh Lalvani is a sculptor, inventor, architect, designer, morphologist, visual mathematician, and professor of Architecture at Pratt Institute, New York. He has been working for over 30 years to decode the morphological genome, which underlies all forms. In sequencing this genome of shapes, and sculpting works from it, Lalvani stands at the intersection of Art and Mathematics - more specifically, at the dawn of genomic art, design and architecture. Over the past 15 years, he has been collaborating with Milgo-Bufkin, the renowned art-metal fabricator who has fabricated for many leading sculptors of our times. Lalvani's recent sculptures exemplify the artist's groundbreaking work and his original artistic process derived directly from a quest inspired by nature's designs, its generative principles and formal codes. His works deploy a proprietary process of fabrication, invented by the artist in collaboration with Milgo, whereby the piece shapes itself under force. It is untouched by artist's hands during the shaping process. One of Lalvani's celebrated works ALGORHYTHM COLUMNS, in titanium, is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and was acquired by the museum for its re-opening in 2004. |
