Nandini Chirimar was born in 1967 and grew up in Jaipur, India. She came to the USA in 1987 for further studies, receiving a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Cornell University (1990) and MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art (1993). Nandini lived and worked in New York City before going to Japan in 2000. She spent four years in Tokyo learning Japanese Woodblock Printing (Hanga), exhibiting her work and teaching art. She moved back to New York City in Aug. 2004, where she lives now with her husband and daughter.

Nandini has worked in many media over the years, including painting, handmade paper, mixed media and printmaking. Currently, she is working on mixed media work incorporating woodblock printing, collage and drawing. Her work is inspired by her visual and cultural experiences of different cities she has lived in or visited. She explores their architecture, color, objects and pop culture, expressing it with her own abstract rhetoric.

In 2004 Nandini was invited to participate in the prestigious CWAJ Print show in Tokyo. Over the years, she has exhibited in the USA, India and Japan, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and solo exhibitions in New York City and Tokyo.
