FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Surati to perform at Lincoln Center’s “Meet the Artist” series, David Rubenstein Atrium, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 am |
Surati is thrilled to announce that on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 am, it will perform at the David Rubenstein Atrium (Frieda and Roy Furman Stage, Broadway between 62nd and 63rd St.) for Lincoln Center’s Meet the Artist Saturdays series. In celebration of Diwali, India’s festival of lights, Surati will present a vibrant Indian dance, music and theatrical performance depicting an original representation of the popular Indian epic the Ramayana as well as other festivals of India celebrated around the same time. The event is being presented in association with the IAAC (Indo American Arts Council).
This version of the Ramayana and the story of Diwali, performed with an original script and concept under the artistic direction of Rimli Roy, features Indian dance theatre, live music, along with a unique blend of Opera, Broadway, ballet, jazz and modern dance components, and a cast from around the globe. In addition, the performance includes an interactive question and answer session with the artists. The event is free to the public and offers an enriching, exuberant and informative program suited for audiences of all ages.
Surati comes to the David Rubenstein Atrium after being selected earlier this year as one of the featured artists for Lincoln Center Local’s 2013 summer tour series, a partnership with local libraries bringing free, interactive, world-class performances to local communities. On September 14, 2013, Surati presented its program Tyohaar, which celebrates and educates audiences about India’s culture and heritage through its myriad of festivals (holidays) by tracing their origin, history, significance and current relevance, at the Queens Central Library in Jamaica, Queens. Excerpts from this program will also be included in Surati’s encore performance at the Lincoln Center campus on November 2, 2013.
