Md Tokon (born 1978) is a Bangladesh born artist currently based in New York. Tokon's style has reflected the art of American Abstract Expressionists. Md Tokon is emerging painter who has been living in New York for over Thirteen years, and has earned a significant reputation as a painter. He spent his early years in Jhenidah and Dhaka. He studied at The Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, and moved to New York in 2001. He obtained his B.A. in Art & Communication Design at The City University of New York. Also with the help of mentors, he studied painting at Art Students League of New York in many years.
As a teenager he was inspired to pursue a career as an artist. When he was about 10 he made his first real painting. City life, the surrounding atmosphere and social structure have made a great impact on him. His paintings describe the story of nature, human emotions and it communicates in a mysterious way. Space plays a significant role in his works, sometime interior space, inner space, or landscape. His works are closely connected to dreams and illusions. His work can be described as "Lyrical & atmospheric abstraction". He developed significant body of works that were often both poetic and pleasing to the eye while at the same time steeped in his diverse theoretical interests and influenced by his extensive travels. He created an opaque and dense surface of substance and mass. At the same time, the painting seems luminescent as if in building up the surface. He trapped the light within its layers & it's highly emotional & peaceful. Md Tokon is in love with color and in love with the cities he grew up in. He learnt the layers style work from his childhood and captured the style when his mom used to take care of their soil house wall. Md Tokon's works also convey an insight into life and a spiritual attachment.
American abstract painter Ronnie Landfield Says, "I have written in the past that Md Tokon’s work was accomplished, well made, and expressive of his personal experience and of his sense of color and nature. Of late his work has become all the more succinct, direct, and to the point as he has matured into a painter who has a clear idea of what he needs to paint about.
It is no small accomplishment to travel from one culture to another and to absorb what is universal and important from both cultures; and be able to reflect those insights and to create works of art that resonate meaning to all. Md Tokon has evolved into a very fine emerging young artist who has grasped the essence of the East and the West in his work."

Javits Convention Center, New York; Leonard Tourne Gallery, New York; First Ladies’ Luncheon at the Pierre Hotel, New York; Tower 49, New York; Grace Institute, New York; The Affordable Art Fair, New York; International Art Expo; Dhaka Art Summit; & many more gallery & Art Fairs. Md Tokon’s paintings are in the permanent collections in many gallery and important organization internationally.
