Critically lauded, India born world musician Falu premieres the vibrant song “Ghumar” today on Huffington Post! “Ghumar” is the lead track from Falu’s upcoming album Foras Road (out independently on May 28th, 2013) that was produced by Grammy-Award winning producer Danny Blume (Jewel, Lisa Loeb).

PRESS HERE to listen toGhumar

The word “Ghumar” is actually a type of a fancy dress worn in the state of Rajasthan, India. Sung in the South Asian language of Rajasthani, Falu’s lyrics on “Ghumar” are about celebrating and welcoming the fact that a girl is finally attaining womanhood. The New York Times says Falu has been “bridging cultural gaps with music” by mixing traditional Indian elements with the diverse sounds of rock, pop, electronic and stunning modern acoustic instrumentation.

Taking its name from the oldest red-light district in the Indian city of Mumbai, Foras Road captures the enduring musical traditions and cultural history of India's centuries-old brothels. The fascinating album concept was recorded half in India, so Falu could call upon some amazing South Asian-based musicians to record strings and melodies.  The other half of the album was recorded with her current band at Blume’s studios in upstate New York.

Live, Falu delivers captivating performances. She has sparked interest from all types of music enthusiasts, pleased the toughest of critics, and has performed nationally on FOX TV and internationally on National Geographic TV. Her captivating sound, which on past records the Wall Street Journal hailed as “Indie Hindi,” has secured her performances at prestigious venues such as: Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center - a special performance for the Dalai Lama – and at The White House for President Obama’s first State Dinner in honor of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In support of the beautifully orchestrated album, Falu will be giving special performance at her record release show on Wednesday, May 29th at New York City’s Highline Ballroom. The event is co-sponsored by the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 arts organization with a passionate mission to showcase and build an awareness for performing, visual and literary arts from/of/about the Indian subcontinent. Plus, Falu will be welcoming ONE, an active community committed to fighting extreme poverty around the world. The show will also feature the fantastic sounds of Slavic Soul Party (Balkan Funk Brass Band) and Zikrayat (Arabic music and dance ensemble). It will be a night to dance to truly amazing music from around the globe!

Today the India born, New York-based songstress Falu is thrilled to announce her latest record Foras Road (out independently on May 28th, 2013), which was produced by Grammy-Award winning producer Danny Blume (Jewel, Lisa Loeb). Taking its name from the oldest red-light district in the Indian city of Mumbai, Foras Road captures the enduring musical traditions and cultural history of India's centuries-old brothels. Singing in seven different South Asian languages throughout the album, Falu blends Indian classical and folk music with her own original compositions, plus adds a modern flare of acoustic instrumentation. Each song explores themes of womanhood, romance, longing, love, and loss, while shedding light on the hardships of being a courtesan during those times. Soon after moving to the States, the critically-lauded singer recorded and performed alongside a wide array of artists including: A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire), Yo-Yo Ma (in The Silk Road Project), Philip Glass, Wyclef Jean, her mentor Ustad Sultan Khan, Blues Traveler, and Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic). Her songs have also been featured in multiple blockbuster films, including Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut A Place in Time
Live, Falu delivers captivating performances. She has sparked the interest of all types of music enthusiasts, pleased the toughest of critics, and performed nationally on FOX TV and internationally on National Geographic TV. She has also sung at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center - a special performance for the Dalai Lama – and The White House for President Obama’s first State Dinner in honor of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
One of Falu’s most stunning performances was at the Time 100 Gala where she performed a duet with Slumdog Millionaire composer A.R. Rahman in front of the one hundred of Time Magazine's most influential people in the world, which included First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
Falu will be giving a stellar performance at New York City’s Highline Ballroom on May 29th in support of Foras Road. For more information on the new record and to purchase tickets to the Highline show visit www.falumusic.com.
