FIFTH ANNUAL IAAC FILM FESTIVAL: Indian Independent & Diaspora Films
-
November 2-6, 2005.

PRESS RELEASE
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 6, 2005:
The Fifth Annual IAAC Film Festival, November 2-6 is proving to be the most exciting ever!

A stellar lineup this year focuses on promoting emerging talents from the Subcontinent and celebrating voices from the Diaspora. The Opening Night Feature is Fox Searchlight's new asset, Deepta Mehta's WATER, a controversial movie about widows in India.  IAAC 2005 Honorees are Madhur Jaffrey, Deepta Mehta and Shashi Tharoor.

Among our other exciting screenings this year are Shonali Bose's Amu, on the assassination of Indira Gandhi; Chicken Tikka Masala, a film on a gay man's attempts to avoid his family's arranged marriage proposal; Waterborne, a post 9/11 saga by Smriti Mundhra. Complimenting them are some very compelling documentaries like Mystelle Brabee's Highway Courtesans, Academy Winner Born Into Brothels, Continuous Journey and Runaway Grooms by Ali Kazimi and a host of Short Narrative and Documentary films.

All films have post-screening discussions and filmmakers are encouraged to mingle with their audiences.  A special panel discussion has been scheduled (details TBA) as well as After Parties for all attendees with the cast/crew at the end of each day.

A special PRESS CONFERENCE has been scheduled with all the filmmakers on Wednesday October 26, 2005 at 3 pm at the Consulate of India.
