Producer John Alec, an accomplished Guitarist and Bass player, is among the key figures behind the commercial and artistic success of South Asia's biggest rock band Junoon. He first went to Pakistan in 1997 to record Junoon's fourth album Azadi which became an international multi-platinum hit. His love of Sufi poetry and Qawalli music can be heard throughout Junoon's recordings and recently on Salman Ahmad's solo album Infinity. John contributed largely, playing bass & keys as well as engineering and producing the project.
John Alec's interests extend well beyond Junoon and South Asian music. He has been associated with the careers of numerous performers in varying capacities. John has engineered, mixed, recorded (studio and live) or performed & toured with many notable artists, including Andrea Saposnik, Ann-Marie Mott, B Smith, Brian Coni, Charles Cirigliamo, Chris Cintron, Chris Taylor, Chris Parker, Dan Hartman, Dan Shapiro, David Johansen, Dakota, East Village Opera Company, Edgar Winter, Gerry Hawkins, Heaven, Housewives On Prozac, J.A.M., Jim Cowdrey, Jimi Fuge, Johnny Winter, John Turco, Joy Rose, Kevin Callaghan, Lauren Smith, Mallory Bernstein, Mark Jenkins, Mars Cowling, Mary Taylor, Neil Dorfsman, Nile Rodgers, Paul Schwartz, Peter Kiesewalter, Quraishi, Rapunzel, Smack, Sophie Dumaine, The Blend, The Fine Lines, Tyley Ross, Ultra Sound.
John grew up in a musical household and went on to study music at the Purchase Conservatory. He honed his performance skills playing guitar with various bands in New York area clubs. John played guitar with the Australian band Heaven and performed in the rock venues of the day… L'mour in Brooklyn, The Roxy in LA, etc. He went on to tour internationally with Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter. While working on recordings with Edgar Winter John discovered his passion for recording. John now records in his state-of-the-art studio in his home. His talent and love of music have taken him all over the world and his passion has evolved into a successful career as a music producer. When he's not recording or performing John teaches music at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry NY.
