Shadow Distribution is proud to present the U.S. theatrical release of the internationally acclaimed documentary THE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISTS, opening in New York at the Cinema Village on Friday, March 29 for a minimum of one week. There will be opening weekend Q&As with the filmmakers Nicole Newnham & Maren Grainger-Monsen and stars of the film Amlan Ganguly, Sikha Patra & Salim Shekh. Showtimes for the Q&As and all shows will be posted on theater website on March 26.
Synopsis: In the slums of Kolkata (Calcutta), children are saving lives and fighting for a better tomorrow. Amlan Ganguly, a gifted and tenacious teacher, empowers his students (including Sikha Patra & Salim Shekh) to challenge the idea that extreme poverty is their fate. Tackling difficult topics such as child marriage, gender inequality, and child labor from the point of view of the children themselves, THE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISTS is a powerful, inspiring, and unprecedented look at “slum children”– not as victims – but as innovators and agents of change.
Released by Shadow Distribution/83 min./In English & Bengali with English Subtitles
