JAG MOHAN MUNDHRA'S BIOGRAPHY
Education:
  • PH.D in Marketing from Michigan State University
  • M.B.A. from Michigan State University
  • M.A. in Advertising from Michigan State University
  • B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from I.I.T. Bombay


  • Academic Career:
    Professor at CSUN, LMU, and other educational institutions in Southern California from 1974-1979.

    Early Entrepreneurship:
    Founding partner of the first Indian newspaper in California, INDIA WEST. The first professional Indian movie theatre in LA called MERALTA, showing Hindi Movies in Culver City in 1975, the first Radio Program in LA on air called SAAZ AUR AWAAZ

    Movie Career:
    Since 1980, changed career to become a film maker both in LA and Bombay.

    Famous Films:

    In Hindi KAMLA and BAWANDAR (SANDSTORM); in English PROVOKED, BACKWATERS, NIGHT EYES, and IMPROPER CONDUCT.

    Awards :
    Released all over India on Dec7,2001, BAWANDAR (SANDSTORM) has won several international and national awards, including Best Picture in following film-festivals:
    SAN JOSE, BERMUDA, HOUSTON, ZANZIBAR and KARACHI and best actress for Nandita Das in SANTA MONICA, and Best Music for Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in Karachi. It also won the V.Shantaram award for cinematic excellence for best regional film, best actor,best actress,best cinematography,best director and best editor.

    Recognitions:
    Jagmohan got nominated for best editor at Screen Awards 2002.
    Jagmohan won the best editor award at Zee Gold Bollywood Awards 2002, in New York City.
    Distinguished Alumnus Award 2002 by I.I.T.Bombay
    KAMLA was invited to be screened at the prestigious Film Society of Lincoln Center in Sept.2002 as a part of a retrospective on the career of Shabana Azmi.
    Similarly, Bawandar was screened by the Brooklyn Museum of Art and was also screened at the IAAC Film Festival in NYC organized by the Indo American Arts Council.
