About the Author
Dennis L. Forbes, an art connoisseur and award-winning
author, specializes in writing books about living visual
artists of the 21st century who have made noteworthy
contributions in the field of art. His passionate interest in
art has led him to interview and document contemporary
living visual artists in their studios and workspaces across
America. His art enthusiasm emerged at age 13 when he
rescued a discarded piece of art from an alley trash bin
in Brooklyn, New York, which started his interest in art
collecting.
Forbes, a former art dealer, created a home based art
business in the 1980s and sold art out of rented space at a
variety of local hotels in the Washington, DC area. Today,
he has a salon studio in Hyattsville, Maryland, where
he lectures about art and artists. In addition, Forbes is a
frequent speaker at schools, galleries, universities, and art
venues.
Through these experiences, Forbes has gained invaluable insight and expertise about art and the signature artistic styles of
the visual artists featured in his multi-topic art books.
Forbes is also the author and publisher of award-winning
Studios and Workspaces of Black American Artists (2008)
and Collecting Limited Edition Prints: Contemporary African
American Printmakers (2004).
Born in New Bern, North Carolina, Forbes received a B.A. and
M.A. from North Carolina Central University, as well as an
M.P.A. from American University. He lives in Virginia with his
wife and children.
