Greetings!
I am delighted to add the IAAC Literary Festival to our amazing roster of annual events giving New York yet another fabulous, stimulating event that educates and excites them about the arts and life in the countries of the Indian subcontinent.
We have been extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful lineup of authors and moderators at such short notice clearly indicating the generosity and cooperation of our participants as well as our IAAC Lit Fest Team who have done a Herculean job of putting together this festival in eight weeks!! Our authors represent myriad fascinating genres, several different countries in the Indian subcontinent, as well as the Indian diaspora. THE cause celebre of the festival are our stupendous book-end speakers: Booker of Booker author Sir Salman Rushdie at Opening Night and Pulitzer prize-winning playwright of the decade, Ayad Akhtar at Closing Night!!
Being an arts council, we have, perforce included playwrights, comedy, & page to celluloid, along with sessions of urban life, fiction, history, politics, LGBT, immigration, digital writing, children's tales, poetry and food writing. We have also included a session with Publishers and Literary agents so that emerging authors and those still writing their first manuscripts can listen to, approach and ask questions of these experts as to the secrets of getting published! The festival gives everyone a chance to mingle and network with authors and publishers; is stimulating and fun
a highlight being the Literary Pub Crawl on Saturday Night a walking tour of the rich Literary history of several Greenwich village bars encompassing fascinating readings, drinks and passionate tales.
A huge thank you to our collaborators The South Asia Institute, Columbia University and India Abroad along with a few loyal sponsors, without whose generosity, this festival may not have come to light. We are still struggling to convince South Asian New Yorkers about the value of the arts
..that what we provide is essential life-blood for their souls, their hearts, their brains and their emotional being. Perhaps this addition may lead us a little closer to getting them to open their wallets a crack
..
Enjoy the festival every author is a Star!
With a giant hug for all of you who are reading this evidence that you care!
