PARAG AMLADI is a film scholar and educator and has taught film studies and film production first in Bombay at the Xavier Institute of Communication and subsequently at campuses of the City University of New York. He is a graduate of the Cinema Studies Dept at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He has published scholarly and journalistic articles on the new Indian cinema as well as on the popular cinema. He has also worked in film and TV production and is currently developing a feature film project.

ASHISH AVIKUNTHAK is an experimental filmmaker from India making films for more than fifteen years. He is an Assistant Professor in Film Media at the University of Rhode Island and has a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Stanford University. His first feature film Nirakar Chayya (Shadows Formless) was premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival and won the Best Director and the Best Actress award at MIAAC 2008.

JERRY CARLSON is Coordinator of Critical Studies in the Film & Video Program at The City College and a member of the doctoral faculty in the Ph.D. Program in French and Film Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center. He has lectured at Stanford, Columbia, Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (Cuba), the University of Paris, and the University of Sao Paulo, among others.

KATHLEEN CARROLL was a film critic for the New York Daily News for nearly three decades. While at the News, she interviewed almost all of the leading directors and actors including Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Natalie Wood, Federico Fellini, Jane Fonda and even Gloria Swanson. She regularly covered the Cannes Film Festival and presented film programs at the Toronto Film Festival and the Sarasota Film Festival. She served on the juries of the Berlin, Montreal and Santa Barbara film festivals. A three-time chairperson of the New York Film Critics Circle, she has written for numerous publications.

VINAY CHOWDHRY is a faculty member of the New School University’s Media Studies Program and Media Arts Director at Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School. He holds an MFA from Bard College’s Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts and a BA in Film and Video from Pennsylvania State University. His first feature film, Personality, has been exhibited at the MIACC, San Joaquin, and Bahamas International film festivals. Vinay’s work also includes a 2002 short dance film on the partition of India and Pakistan, Line of Control, which expresses narrative through hybridized eastern and western dance styles. In 2009, he launched Dakoit Pictures, a full-service production and post-production company.

UDAYAN GUPTA is an author and journalist and a co-founder of Books Beyond Boundaries, a New York-based interactive publishing company. Udayan has a Masters In Film from Boston University and has written extensively about cinema and the business of cinema.

MADHUR JAFFREY is an award-winning actress and best-selling cookbook author regarded by many as the world authority on Indian food. Her classic first book An Invitation to Indian Cooking was published by Knopf in 1973, and she has been the host of the series Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cookery for BBC television. She has appeared in more than 20 films, including Merchant Ivory's Heat and Dust, and written more than 15 books. She won James Beard Awards in 1982, 1994, 2000, 2002, and 2004. Madhur lives in New York City.

KAVERY KAUL is the award-winning director and producer of documentaries like Long Way from Home, One Hand Don’t Clap and First Look. Her work has played in theaters and on television in the U.S. and internationally. It has screened at festivals like Telluride, Berlin, London, Sydney and India. Her new documentary Back Walking Forward will be released in 2011. She is currently developing her next project Streetcar to Kolkata.

JOSEPH MATHEW is an award-winning filmmaker based in New York City. His documentary Crossing Arizona premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and has been widely distributed around the world. His first narrative film, Bombay Summer won three awards including Best Director and Best Film at the MIAAC film festival 2009.

CLAUS MUELLER pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in Germany, France, and the United States and teaches media research at Hunter College / CUNY. Apart from curating specialized film festival he has served as a judge in film festivals and for the international Emmys. He serves on the board of the International Film Exchange, the NY Film Video Council and on the executive committee of the New York Foreign Press Association and has been elected to the American Council on Germany and the International Council of the National Television Academy.

PARVEZ SHARMA Parvez Sharma is a New York-based Muslim writer and filmmaker. His first feature A Jihad for Love, which he directed and produced, is an international phenomenon with more than 8 million viewers in 49 nations in the first two years of its release. The leading progressive journal UTNE Reader has named Parvez a "visionary" in its list of "50 Visionaries who are Changing Your World" in 2009. He is the winner of the prestigious GLAAD media award for Outstanding Documentary in 2009.

ZENOBIA SHROFF has been an actress in NYC for the past 20 years. She has been in numerous theatrical productions. Some of you may know her from Sooni Taraporeval as Little Zizou which premiered at the 2008 MIAAC Film Festival. She has written a one woman piece Exotic Observations which she performed for the IAAC at the Guild Gallery past August. She writes for theajnabee.com and on her own website zenobiashroff.biz.

NILITA VACHANI is an internationally recognized documentary filmmaker with the films Eyes of Stone, Diamonds in a Vegetable Market and When Mother Comes Home for Christmas to her credit. Her first novel HomeSpun won Foreword's Choice Fiction award in 2008. She is also an editor, screenwriter and part-time faculty at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
