D A R U N A M was founded in New York City in early 2007 when two accomplished artists, lead singer and saxophonist Manu Narayan and guitarist and composer Radovan Jovicevic, decided to dedicate themselves to a new full-time music project. Drawing from their American, European and Asian world beat and rock and roll roots, D A R U N A M has been primarily concentrated itself in the recording studio, writing and recording over 50 original songs that blend the melodies, rhythms and grooves of Indian Classical, Eastern European Gypsy, British and American popular music. D A R U N A M currently has two album's available. Their first release a six-song EP entitled "All That's Beautiful Must Die" and their second, a full-length album with Canadian Clarinetist MILAN entitled "The Last Angel on Earth."
"All That's Beautiful Must Die", a neo world pop/rock EP features an eclectic mix of music that has been downloaded by over 350,000 people on the Clear Channel Network Radio Station websites across America. The video of the title track was directed and conceived by Nusrat Durrani of MTV World and features Janina Gavankar of Showtime's "The L Word."
"The Last Angel On Earth" is a Gypsy inspired Electronic lounge album which was released worldwide with a live concert on CBC National Radio in Canada. It features the Balkan Gypsy rhythms coupled and Indian and American Vocals with Milan Milosevich adding the beautiful Jazz, Western Classical, and Balkan Clarinet melodies.
D A R U N A M also has composed or collaborated on music for a number of films including the current films WALKAWAY released in the US by Reliance and the independent film Good Night | Good Morning by Sudish Kamath.
In addition to DARUNAM, Manu Narayan is an accomplished actor who can be seen in Film, TV, and Theater. On Film and TV, Manu most recently was seen in Walkaway, The Love Guru, The Last Airbender, Wall Street: 2, Good Night | Good Morning, Quarter Life Crisis, and AMC's Rubicon. In theater, Manu originated the "hero" Akaash in the A.R. Rahman musical "Bombay Dreams" on Broadway for which he received a New York Drama League nomination. He most recently played Cyrano de Bergerac at Baltimore Center Stage and Mike in the revival of The Lisbon Traviata at the Kennedy Center. As a concert artist, Manu has been asked to sing and has performed in concert across the US, Canada, UK, Italy, Russia, and India. He has had the privilege of singing for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, George W. Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton and singing with Cyndi Lauper and Garth Hudson. In recent recordings, Manu adds his vocals to Jazz vocalist Gregory Generet's debut album Re:GENERET-ion, and Manu sings as the lead vocalist on multiple tracks for the critically acclaimed Frank London (of the GRAMMY winning Klezmatics) concept Klezmer / theater album A Night in the Old Marketplace.
Radovan Jovicevic has enjoyed huge success as a songwriter and musician with his previous European based band Zana. In addition, he has written numerous award-winning hits for other European artists. As the founder, songwriter and lead guitarist for Zana, Radovan earned six Gold Records, three Platinum Records and collectively sold over 5,000,000 records. His music has been used for countless movies, commercials and music videos. He is the recipient of many European Grammy and Emmy awards for his body of work. Radovan is not only an accomplished touring star but also an incredible songwriter and musician. He pioneered synthpop and use of ethno motifs in popular music.
Deep Singh is a renowned percussionist, born in London England and currently living in NYC. Singh began to play the Tabla at the age three years old and at the age of seven became the youngest disciple of Ustad Allah Rakha. Singh's professional career started at the age of nine and since has performed at prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, London; The Royal Festival Hall, London; The Waldorf Astoria, NYC, Carnegie Hall, NYC, among many others. Singh has accompanied the finest musicians from India such as Dr.Aruna Sharma, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Hari Harren, Ghulam Ali and many more. He is currently touring a concert of Indian classical music and working with other percussion bands.
After many years of playing in the NYC down town club scene and merging Indian sounds with rock/pop, he is now coming out with his own unique style of music. With his years of experience as an Indian classical musician and playing with western bands, Singh is revered as a master in blending music from the east and west. |
