MIAAC Film Festival
November 8, 2010

NOISE Directed by Raj Nidimoru & Krishna DK
The Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival in an annual festival hosted by the IAAC, a not-for-profit that has pledged to bring awareness to Indian and cross-cultural art forms in North America. (If you remember, I introduced IAAC earlier this year with a post on their Erasing Borders Festival of Indian Dance). The MIAAC Film Festival, the longest running Indian film festival in the U.S., will host it’s 10th annual event from Nov. 10-14 in New York City.
Feature films, shorts, and documentaries will be screened at the School of Visual Arts’ Theater(on 333 W.23rd St., between 8th and 9th Avenues in Chelsea). MIAAC’s sidebar festival, “Bhumika: The Roles of Smita Patil,” will be held at the Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater (165 W. 65th St., between Broadway and Amsterdam). The festival will also include panel discussions and lectures.
In a culture where Bollywood films and musicals have become so saturated, it’s a refreshing change to see lesser known Indian filmmakers and “true films” (in my opinion) being screened. You can view a complete schedule of all the films that will be screened at the festival here: Schedule. If you are in Manhattan, be sure to check out a film or two! You can purchase festival passes here: Tickets.
