 Bollywood Chaska News Network, IST 12:58 P.M, November 19 His film RAMAYANA has been a box office flop. Sources say that due to his loss, his has sacked off many of his staff members. Denying these rumors, Ketan Mehta says” one film is not enough to make me bankrupt.” He further says” We’ve acquired a studio and are in the process of relocating. And since an outsourcing project has just wrapped up- and in the animation industry people are taken on one project at a time- We thought this transition period was a good time to let go of a few staff members. Obviously they are offended. He admitted that this project had been an ambitious one. Released in Dassera, it had failed to create hype among movie lovers. Another reason for its failure as stated by him was that it was released during examination time and so the young crowd could not go to the theatre. According to Mehta, this animation was not meant to be successful among the Indian audience because animation is still in its nascent stage here. The film’s English version THE LEGEND OF RAMA was recently invited to the MIAAC Film Festival in New York. Director Mehta is to release the English version of the movie in spring 2011. Mehta says” Animation is a global business and the Ramayana is the most popular Indian epic ever told. He plans to dub the movie or provide subtitles in European languages like French, German, Spanish and Italian. He also plans to dub it or provide subtitles in Japanese and other south-Asian languages. THE LEGEND OF RAM has been dubbed by Kabir Bedi. He dubs the voices of Raavan, Ram, Laksman , Hanuman and Sita in the movie. This film is the most expensive animated film from India. According to Ashutosh Mordekar “Star is always looking out for movie content that engages the entire family and children’s movies has always been an important part of Star Gold’s content strategy. RAMAYANA is a family entertainer, with an epic storyline narrated with high quality animation. Mehta has also done a deal with Disney channel. Maya Digital Media is planning for two more animation features. |
