Artist's Statement
:
In November 2005, I was invited by a colleague to attend her wedding in India. The prospect of visiting Chandigarh, the city master-planned by Le Corbusier, whose body of work was a significant component of my architectural education, was too tempting to pass up. During my travel there, and to Delhi, Jaipur and Agra, I took many photographs, using a hand-held digital camera. The sounds, smells and tastes of that varied culture were not possible for me to record. However, the wonderful color, light and gesture of the scenes there were all-embracing and could be readily documented. The photographs included in the "Through the Eyes of Others: Photographs of India" exhibition are from a series of images entitled Made in India and attempt to convey the Indian culture as seen through the eyes of an American architect.
