Velli Motton Street: May 17 - 21, 2006

Velli Motton Street
"A breath of life"

The idea of the project started in Velli Motton Street, a Tsunami affected area in India. Velli Motton (which means silver clouds in Tamil) Street is located in Cuddalore, a town in the Tamil Nadu district, on the southeast coast of India.

Kiritin Beyer and Florian Le Bris met in Velli Motton Street in January 2005. They were working as volunteers through an organization for the Tsunami Relief. They were helping people recover from trauma through health care.

They say, "It's on this street that we rested every night, after spending long days helping fishermen's families at the devastated villages. We came to know all the children from the street and their families, who were full of sincere hospitality despite their devastation. We were touched by the enthusiasm of the children and became sentimentally attached to their families."

Through their paintings and photographs Florian and Kiritin want to show that beauty and happiness depend more on the spirit we give to life than the materialistic prosperity that we can never own. This project will help 12 children from Velli Motton Street pay their education at the "St Anne" school in Cuddalore, till the higher secondary level.
