» February:
Wrote and directed a TV serial on honour killings which was telecast
in July-September 2001
» April:
New Play "Bulha"
(based on
the life and works of Punjabi Sufi poet "Bulleh
Shah"), which
was staged in Lahore, Pakistan for a mixed Pakistani and Indian
audience.

» May-December:
Came to Los Angeles as Feuchtwanger/Pen/Getty scholar.
Wrote plays, organized play readings, gave talks at campuses and
interacted with artists during stay in US. More info in the CV.
Wrote "Border-Border", a play on peace
for children, which was performed by Pakistani and Indian children
in India in June 2001.
New play on women's empowerment "Let us go the
Fair". Performed in various urban and rural locations
during the year.
Year 2002
» TV drama serial on
violence against women "Taaqub" (The Chase) telecast
on prime TV Channel in Pakistan.
» Came to the US to
give a talk at the University of California Irvine, San Diego,
Riverside, LA, Berkley, Stanford and attend International Conference
at UC Irvine.
» Organized and directed
a dramatic reading of my play "Black are My Robes"
at
» Lark Theatre, New
York and give talks at universities of Columbia , Pen State and
Philadelphia .
Year 2003
» Wrote and directed
TV drama serial "Khushallpura" (The Prosperity
Town) which is being shown on Geo TV since July 2003.
» Wrote and directed
telefilm on the jehadi phenomenon, "Mujahid"
(The Holly Warrior), which was screened in Pakistan during the
year.
» Wrote and directed
"Jawaz" (the Excuse), a play on honour killings,
shown on Geo TV and Kara Film Festival in December 2003.
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES DURING STAY AT UCI
» Work on English translation
of my new play "Dara Shikoh" and direct a staged
reading of the play with the help of South Asian actors and UCI
students.
» Give talks at UCI
on topics including:
(a) Sufism as a cultural and spiritual bridge between India and
Pakistan,
(b) Performing Arts and Islamic Fundamentalism in Pakistan and
(c) Censorship and Pakistani media.
» Speak at various universities
and South Asian American meetings.
» Work on a staged reading
of play on sufi poet Bulleh Shah,"Bulha", in
LA with a LA theatre group.
