An eponymous stage musical adaptation of the award-winning 2001 Bollywood film, Monsoon Wedding, will premier on Broadway in 2016.
The film that broke many stereotypes and was, in essence, the breakaway 'Bollywood' film will now enjoy a stint on stage as Sabrina Dhawan, who made her screenwriting debut with director Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding is also working on the musical adaptation of the film that is scheduled to open on Broadway in 2016.
Dhawan and Nair will sit face to face and discuss the process of 'Page to Stage' and also from screen to stage.
The discussion will happen as a part of the 2nd Annual Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) Literary Festival to be held in New York this month. Called The Closing Night: Mira Nair & Sabrina Dhawan in Conversation From Page to Stage, it is set to take place on October 25.

While the film had a pinch of Bollywood masala with song and dance, Nair says the musical will not have that feel as the choreographer is an Americana artist. However, it is believed that Bhardwaj has composed 12 songs for the musical. The readings of the adaptation are being managed by Mira along with Mary-Mitchell Campbell as the Musical Director.
Apart from working on the musical adaptaion, Mira is also directing the Disney production Queen of Katwe starring Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelwo. The film is based on the true story of the Ugandan chess prodigy, Phiona Mutesi.
