| MIAAC09 Festival Highlights  AN EVENING WITH MIRA NAIR  
 
  MIAAC09 presents two  special programs featuring director Mira Nair. MIRA NAIR AND THE SHORT FILM.  With screenings of her short films, from her first documentary, So Far From India (1982) to her latest, a contribution to the portmanteau film 8 (2009), the program celebrates the release of her complete short  films along with a new DVD of Monsoon Wedding (2001). The second program will be the screening of her ground-breaking Salaam Bombay! on the 21st anniversary of her award-winning  first feature.

  CONTEMPORARY BENGALI CINEMA
 From a composite portrait of the denizens of a  newly revitalizing Kolkata to new interpretations of the poetry and literary  intellect that have often been the mainstay of the accomplished directors of  Bengali cinema, MIAAC09 draws attention to five Bengali features and a full  length documentary in this year's line-up. Filmmakers premiering their new work  at MIAAC09 include noted filmmakers Buddhadeb Dasgupta (THE WINDOW) and Rituparno Ghosh (AFTER WORDS) ; and newer talent Suman Mukhopadhyay (FOUR CHAPTERS), Sangeeta Datta (LIFE GOES ON) and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury (THE ENDLESS WAIT). 
 LIFE GOES ON
 
 
  Rediff India Abroad  presents the US Premiere of LIFE GOES ON, starring Sharmila Tagore. The  screening will also be attended by the director, Sangeeta Datta, and will be  followed by a reception.
