BHUVAN LALL

Bhuvan Lall is a film producer, an award winning documentary filmmaker, international media journalist, landscape photographer and soon to be published novelist. Deeply moved by the events of 9/11 Lall launched, a film production and distribution venture “Lall Entertainment”, at the Cannes film festival 2003. The motto of the privately held company is “Vasudeva kutumb kambh” , (sanskrit for the world is one family). Lall Entertainment is currently producing inspirational and international feature films set in India. Bhuvan Lall’s first production is the fully funded multi million dollar Hollywood motion picture “Buddha”, (2011) to be directed by Academy Award nominated Ashutosh Gowariker and written by David Ward, an Academy Award winning screenwriter. On the 60th anniversary of Indian Independence Bhuvan Lall created and organised the multi million dollar “India Splendor” festival in Los Angeles in association with UCLA Film School & ICM.

Lall who splits his time between Hollywood and India, has worked as the Indian correspondent of Screen International for over 13 years and has had weekly columns in the leading Indian dailies The Hindustan Times (Hollywood Calling) and Business Standard (Hollywood Reel).

Prior to setting up Lall Entertainment, at 34, Bhuvan Lall was named Executive Director of the “Indian Broadcasting Foundation” (IBF), the trade organization of the US$ 2 billion broadcasting industry of India, a position he held for three years. At IBF, he pioneered a number of regulatory initiatives and was closely connected to policy making in the Government of India. He was appointed a member of the Planning Commission’s working group on Information & Broadcasting for India’s 10th five year plan (2002 – 07). Bhuvan Lall began his career as a documentary filmmaker, producing, directing and writing thirty five social documentaries and short films for international as well as Indian TV networks.

Lall earned a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Delhi while making short experimental films and directing stage plays. Subsequently Lall professionally trained as a filmmaker and is a recipient of a first class Masters degree in Mass Communication (film, television & radio production) from the Mass Communication Research Centre in Delhi. Lall’s video docudrama “A ticket to the future” won the Desmond Doig Award for the best graduation film in the year 1988 and his science fiction short film, “Killing a sunrise on a full moon night” was awarded the highest marks in direction and scriptwriting.
