The title won’t change: Tannishtha
November 19, 2009 By PRIYANKA DASGUPTA

Tannishtha Chatterjee has just bagged her first international award and needless to say, the actor is delighted.

She was recently in New York to attend MIAAC and it came as a pleasant surprise when her film, Bombay Summer, won three awards at the festival.

Says Tannishtha, “I was nominated along with Judi Dench and Anne Hathaway. But I did not win the award then. This time, I won the Best Actress Award. The icing on the cake is that Bombay Summer won all the awards — Best Director, Best Film and Best Actress.”

Ask Tannishtha about the reactions she received in New York and the actor says, “Mira (Nair) and Anurag (Kashyap) loved the film. Deepa Mehta too saw the film in Abu Dhabi and congratulated us after the screening. She loved it. She is very upfront and it’s only if she really likes something that she would come forward and support it. Coming from a genuine person like her, that compliment meant a lot. Anurag is also the same. He will only praise a film if he really likes it.”

Meanwhile, is there any chance of changing the title of the film since the use of the word ‘Bombay’ might not go down too well with a certain political group? Tannishtha answers in the negative, adding, “The title will remain the same. If we want to progress as a society, we need to be more tolerant. Economic progress alone is not enough. India’s beauty is that in spite of a lot of problems, it has always allowed space for opinions.”
