AKSHAYE KHANNA (HARILAL GANDHI):
One of the top stars in Hindi cinema, Akshaye had portrayed comic, emotional,
romantic and negative roles over the past eight years. His father Vinod Khanna, now a
Member of Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) had a long and distinguished career as a
leading man in Hindi cinema. 'Dil Chatha Hai' fetched Akshaye the prestigious
'Filmfare' Award for the Best Supporting Actor in 2002, his earlier films like 'Border'
also brought him awards. 'Taal' a romantic musical by Subhash Ghai, was a huge success.
His flair for comedy was seen in films like 'Hulchul' and 'Hungama', he essayed a tense
role in 'Deewar' with Amitabh Bachchan and confidently accepted the challenge of a
negative role in 'Humraaz'. Akshaye is admired as one of the most versatile and talented
actors of modern Hindi cinema.
DARSHAN JARIWALA (GANDHI):
A versatile and veteran stage actor, Darshan distinguished himself on Gujarati stage
before entering the Hindi and English stage. Amongst his notable stage production was
the Gujarati play 'Mulraj Mansion' directed by famous stage and film personality
Paresh Rawal, Darshan had so far acted in about 50 plays and worked with noted
directors like Ketan Mehta, Vipul Shah, and Naushil Mehta. Switching over to
English stage was no problem and Darshan made a mark in Feroz's 'Royal Hunt of the
Sun' and won fresh laurels for playing Gandhi in 'Mahatma vs. Gandhi'. His other
English plays include 'Musk Maiden', 'Going Solo 2', 'It happens only in India' '30 Days
in September', 'Victoria and Abdul' and 'Laughing Wild' where he worked with leading
directors like Vikram Kapadia, Lillett Dubey, Mahabanu Modi Kotwal and Vikrant
Pawar. He featured in the BBC radio recording of Vikram Seth’s ‘ Suitable Boy’ and
the english translation of the Indian classical play ‘ Mrichh Katikum’. He has just
completed shooting for two International film, 'Loins of Punjab Presents' and 'Karma
Kalling'
SHEFALI SHAH (KASTURBA GANDHI):
As the abused daughter-in-law in Mira Nair's 'Monsoon Wedding' (winner of Golden
Lion at Venice Film Festival), her performance caught the imagination of the film
world. Shefali won acclaim in television soaps and essayed major roles in Hindi films.
She was impressive in Hindi soaps like 'Raahein', 'Banegi apne baat', 'Campus', 'Naya Nukkad' and 'Hasratein' which fetched her a Channel V Woman of the Year award.
Hosting TV shows like 'Antakshari' made Shefali a household name and noted Hindi
film producer-director Ram Gopal Verma cast her in an important role in 'Satya' for
which she won the Filmfare Critics Award and the 'Screen' Best Supporting Actor
award. Her role in Gujarati film 'Daariya Choru' was much acclaimed. Other notable
films were Aparna Sen's '15 Park Avenue' and 'Waqt' with Amitabh Bachchan, India'a
major movie star. She has just finished Subhash Ghai's 'Black and White' in the lead role
and Ritupurno Ghosh’s ‘Last Lear’.
BHUMIKA CHAWLA (GULAB GANDHI):
Not all top models succeed in show business. Bhumika is among the exceptions who made
the smooth transition. From modeling and doing music videos, she launched out into the
world of regional and Hindi cinema and today, is one of the top stars of the Telugu
screen. Her role in 'Khushi' fetched her a Filmfare Best Actress award. Bhumika made
a sensational debut in Hindi cinema with 'Tere Naam' which led to several nominations
in the 'Best debut' category as well as the 'Zee Cine Award'. She has acted in numerous
Hindi films and is busy shooting in South India as well as in Mumbai. |
